Savings plan calculator
Work out what a deposit takes, both ways round. What you need to save to hit a date, and how long it takes at what you can actually afford.
This calculator is a guide only, not personalised financial advice. It assumes your savings and contributions carry on steadily and does not allow for interest, pay rises, or KiwiSaver investment returns, which can all move the answer. Lending criteria change. We recommend keeping two accounts, one for emergencies and one for the deposit, so the deposit does not quietly get spent. Book a free chat.
Worth knowing
Three things that catch first home buyers out
- You cannot take all of your KiwiSaver investment. $1,000 has to stay in, and you need three years of membership before you can withdraw at all.
- The deposit is not the only cash you need. Legal fees, a builder's report and a LIM all land at once. Budget a couple of thousand on top.
- Under 20% is possible, and it costs more. Fewer lenders, a low equity margin on your rate, and a tighter assessment. Worth knowing before you set the target.
